EQUIPMENT
- 2 short period (1Hz) seismic stations with telemetry to Guatemala City.
- 1 portable seismic station (short period 1 Hz) for onsite registration.
- 1 biaxial tiltmeter (Bendix) with digital recording in Guatemala City.
- 1 VHF/FM communication system.
PROJECTS
- Monitoring of microseismic activity
- Monitoring of ground deformation by electronic tiltmeter, dry tilt and
levelling lines
- 1 Lahar control.
FACILITIES
The observatory is located at Finca El Faro, 6 km from the village El Palmar and 210 km to the east of Guatemala City.
The observatory building is a prefabricated house, 10 x 13 meters, with facilities for 4 persons in addition to the 2 permanent observers. The observatory is equipped with a radio for direct communication with the control office of INSIVUMEH.
