Description:

The University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas (Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas, UNICACH) is in charge of the monitoring of El Chich????nd Tacanᠶolcanoes. In 2004 UNICACH signed a collaboration agreement for the seismic and volcanic monitoring for disaster prevention with the Secretary of Security and Civil Protection, the Subsecretary of Civil Protection of the Government of Chiapas and the National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED). As a result of this agreement, el Centro de Monitoreo Vulcanol????o y Sismol????o de Chiapas was created at UNICACH. Since then, all these institutions have collaborated to develop the monitoring network of El Chich????nd Tacanᠶolcanoes.

Tacanᮼ/p>

El  Chich????olcano

Seismology
The seismic network at El Chich????bsp;volcano is composed by four telemetered broadband stations:

Viejo Volcᮠstation (VVCH)
Municipio: Chapultenango, Chiapas
Latitude: 17° 21' 53.50" N
Longitude: 93° 13' 23.40" O
Altitude: 1037m

Francisco Letation (FLCH)
Municipio: Francisco LeChiapas
Latitude: 17° 17´49.00" N
Longitude: 93° 17' 18.00" O
Altitude: 900 m

Nicapa station (NCCH)
Municipio: Pichucalco, Chiapas
Latitude: 17° 23´49.40" N
Longitude: 93° 13' 29.40" O
Altitude: 609 m

These broadband stations were installed in March 2012 and the signals are received in real time at Centro de Monitoreo Vulcanol????o y Sismol????o de Chiapas in Tuxtla Guti鲲ez, Chiapas.

Geochemistry
The geochemistry monitoring at El Chich????olcano has been conducted constantly and permanently. The Crater Lake is sampled three or four times per year including pH and temperature measurements. Chemical analyses in the laboratory are performed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry at the Geochemistry Laboratory of the Institute of Geophysics, UNAM and with ICP equipment at the Laboratory of Earth Sciences and Environment, UNICACH. Chemical analysis includes sulfates, chloride, fluoride, boron, carbonate, bicarbonate, calcium, magnesium, sodium and iron.

Others:
Telemetered IP camera.
GPS station at Viejo Volcᮠ(VVCH).
Meteorological station (rain gauge, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure).

Tacanᠶolcano
